How do I keep my kitty from biting?
When my cat plays with me he likes to nip and bite sometimes. My friend says this is normal behaviour for a male cat and jokingly calls these "lovebites". But it’s not so funny when your the one being bitten. I love my kitty and don’t want to hurt him but how can I discourage this bad behaviour on his part?
Don’t hit or yell, kitty will not understand this. If kitty is very young, he is playing, and must learn biting is no good. Play with kitty- as soon as he bites, STOP playing. Distract him with another toy, or leave the room, for a few minutes, or long enough, in your judgement, for him to begin to associate ‘end of fun’ with ‘bite mommy’. Reward play times where no biting occurs with treats and gentle petting time. Cats are darn smart, and they love attention as much as dogs- if you take away the love when kitty bites, he’ll figure it out fast.
If you hit, yell, or otherwise abuse kitty, he will bite harder, out of anger and hurt.

spray the kitten with a water bottle, they dont like that. do it now before your kitten gets older. i have a female cat that loves to bite us and she loves to stalk us and attack our legs/feet. haha we have the scars to prove it.

My cat did the same thing. When he started to bite me when we were playing I would stop and tell him no then just stop playing. He doesn’t bite my hands anymore. The only time I let him do this is when I have one or two socks on my hand, he knows that when mommy has a sock on her hand then he can bite and scratch because the sock actually protects this. Give it a try
Also at pet stores like *PETCO* they have special mitts for your hands so you can play rough with your kitty. It is tiger print or leopard print, looks like an oven mit but has fabric like a stuffed animal.
This will work I promise.

I understand. But when a cat scratches you, or bites, it is painful. My cat used to hang on with a sharp bite for over five minutes. ouch!
Gently, not flick, but tap him on the nose. Say no. Eventually your cat will understand, like mine
I hope this helps a little.

Um.. if that keeps on happening and the bites are harder hit your cat on the nose or tap it on the nose.. or spray some water at him.. but not a lot… I mean like from a spray bottle

Most kittens do this, however it is not behavior to be encouraged, as the cat gets older the bites get harder! You can discourage your cat from doing this by immediately stopping playtime and maybe spraying him once with a water bottle and saying no.
